Save the Children (from Madonna)
The Guardian is reporting that the children's charity Save the Children is objecting to Madonna's plan to adopt another child from Malawi:
Coincidentally, NBC re-ran the Angelina Jolie is looking for fresh babies segment on SNL this weekend. I don't know that I care so much, but it is a little fucked up that it takes ordinary people years to finalize overseas adoptions, yet Brangelina and Madonna can stroll into any third world country they choose and pick up a few kids.In a rather unusual move, the charity Save the Children has spoken out about the star, warning she risked sending the wrong message by going through with the adoption.
The charity's spokesman, Dominic Nutt, said many international adoptions are unnecessary – and some even feed into a criminal "adoption industry".
"The best place for a child is in his or her family in their home community," he said, adding that many apparent orphans often had at least one parent or other close family who could look after them.
